Digital Marketing at Roche Argentina: meet Leonel

    July 21, 2011 8:00 AM | TedM

Tell us a bit about yourself:

    Where did you study?

I graduated in Computer sciences from CAECE University in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1997 and then I earned my MBA degree from IAE Business School, also located in Argentina, in 2005.

In which Roche location are you currently working? What can you tell us about that location?

Im working at Roche Argentina, which is located 25 minutes from downtown Buenos Aires. We have a beautiful and modern building surrounded by a large and neat garden which gives us a great green view from our desks. We also enjoy walks around the garden after lunch.

Here we have an open plan office (everyone has the same desk and there are no walls between us) and I really enjoy it. When I joined Roche I was reluctant about this at the beginning, but now I am used to it and I really believe that fosters fluid communication and strengthens relationships among coworkers.

Why did you decide to join Roche?

I joined Roche four years ago. Before that I had worked for Pfizer, another big player in the industry. My decision was based not only on the position and the project they offered me, but also on Roche itself due to its excellent reputation as an employer and the benefits it offers to employees.

What is your current job (please describe in detail your responsibilities and day to day activities)?

Im currently working on Digital Marketing, focusing on content management at a regional level. Im in charge of the Regional Content Center. What we do is to translate, adapt and upload digital content (websites, webcasts, email templates, etc.) and make it available for all the countries over the region to share. Thus, we generate savings and provide content aligned with the regional and global strategy.

A couple of examples of what we do are:

HER2 Testing LATAM (www.her2testing-la.com) : Based on www.her2testing.org (International Site) the content was translated into Spanish and the websites for each country in LATAM were developed. We also provide them with the promotional material such as email templates to promote the launch in each country. This project is now in Phase II and we are working on Breast Cancer content to include it in the current version of the site.

Oncology webcasts and on-line events such as Avastin Lung Cancer Symposium held at PILC Congress and Interactive discussions about clinical impact of recent data for first-line therapy in NSCLC and From tumor biology to biomarkers are some examples of content that we managed and translated for LATAM countries.

What makes it such a great job? What makes it exciting?

Working with innovative tools and new ways like social media to reach our customers makes this a great job. Using all this state-of-the-art technology makes it exciting.

What does work/life balance to you?

To try to explain what this means to me, I will start by saying that the break-even point between life and work is different from person to person and also can vary for one single person in different stages of his life. For me, the balance has to do not only with the amount of time that we dedicate to work or personal life, but also with the quality of that time we spend at work or home. Sometimes, staying late at work doing a rewarding task could make you feel more pleased than staying at home watching TV. Saying this, I believe that its on me to achieve this break-even point, but of course I need that Roche help me to achieve it. I think that Roche is working on this subject trying to give us more benefits every day: like working from home or some Friday afternoons free in summer.

    Please complete the following sentence:

Roche is a great place to work: because it is a Company who cares for the wellness of their employees and it is always trying to be one step further in this matter.

How would you describe the people working here?

People in general are really kind. We respect each other. That doesnt mean that we dont discuss our differences, but we do in a respectful way.

Here you will find very professional people eager to learn new things, and for sure I learn from them too.

What would you advise job seekers who want to join us?

Roche is a challenging company in a challenging industry. So, whether you are looking for international career opportunities or local professional development, this is the place for you, join us! We are a group of people committed to making Roche a truly great place to work!

    Thanks for your story!

    An Attention Grabbing Résumé

July 13, 2011 9:20 AM | Mike Wood for RocheCareers

Your resume is the one chance to make a good first impression, but many are so badly presented that they do exactly the opposite and result in an otherwise great candidate not getting over the first hurdle.

Recruiters are busy people, and your task is to make their selection process an easy one. Anything, however small, that makes it hard for the recruiter to read your resume, is effectively putting a barrier between you and that job.

So, of all the things that can directly affect your chance of landing that new job, it's your Resume...

Prepping for An Interview With Social Media

July 6, 2011 7:49 PM | Mike Wood for RocheCareers

If you spoke the words Social Media a decade ago, youd likely have been greeted by looks of bemusement. Today, theres no escaping it. Be it Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Tumblr, the mediums are numerous and the potential applications tremendous. Within the corporate arena itself, social media is taking increasing prominence not least in the realm of recruitment. While for job seekers that can mean using sites like LinkedIn to look for openings, for recruiters social media is fast becoming a criteria of its own in weeding out applicants. Indeed according to some statistics, as many as one in five recruiters now conduct background checks using social networking sites like Facebook. The prospective uses, it seems, are limitless.
