Treffen Sie Tobias Giger, Gerätemonteur bei Roche in Rotkreuz

    December 17, 2012 9:51 AM | Gabor Bara

    TOBIAS GIGER_B

    Cata_Tinguely_blog

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Catalina Rojas. I come from Costa Rica and I am a pharmacist.

Before joining Roche Basel a year ago, I worked as a Regulatory Affairs Officer at the Roche affiliate in Costa Rica for five years, managing countries in Central America and the Caribbean. Before that, I held Quality Control and Quality Assurance positions in manufacturing plants in Costa Rica and Spain. I also have some experience working in pharmacy offices and hospital pharmacies.

In my professional and personal life, my ambition is always to enjoy what I am doing and do it as well as possible with a positive attitude. I am convinced that having a positive attitude can create great opportunities for you and those around you.

I love to spend time with my family; it's like meditation to me and reboots my energy to keep on going. I also enjoy traveling as a way of trying to understand other people’s culture. Music, sport and languages are also among my hobbies.

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Navid Nazemian and I am working in Group HR since February 2012 as a Global HR Business Partner, supporting HR and Communications globally. I started my career working in commercial and sales roles for about six years, as a customer of HR. My sales peers were quite surprised when I told them that I had discovered my passion for HR by accident. Since then, I have worked in HR for over a decade without any regrets.

I have been fortunate enough to have worked across many industries as a HR professional. I learned a thing or two about the sporting goods industry, the commercial finance sector and, lately, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) before joining Roche. I have lived and worked in a number of countries and consider myself a global citizen.

Meet Mark Sheldrake, an International Product Manager at Roche

    October 30, 2012 6:38 PM | Mike Wood

    Meet Mark Sheldrake

I’ve worked for Roche/Boehringer Mannheim for 20 years now, mostly in various support functions in the US. In 1997 we created the very first Point of Care data management system for hospital testing.

I was tasked with creating a training programme for Point of Care Coordinators (POCC) implementing regulatory compliance in Near Patient Testing (NPT) for the first time. I had the privilege of facilitating 2-day workshops and also helping Roche understand customer needs. I was fortunate to be able to organise workshops in various warm and sunny locations around the US, which was always a bonus during the cold winter months in Indianapolis. After 10 years of training I came back in-house and took on a leadership role in the Accu-Check Customer Care department. I inherited a group of technical specialists and we worked together to forge a progressive and well-knit team.

In my free time I really enjoy hiking here in Switzerland and I also scuba dive whenever I have the opportunity.

    Moving from Switzerland to Finland

    Marcel Wüthrich

    By Christine Schlumpf

Just over a year ago, Marcel Wüthrich left Switzerland to become Head of Diabetes Care in Finland. He found a different health system, special seasons, a challenging market situation and extremely friendly people.

The town of Espoo has just over 250,000 inhabitants, making it the second-largest town in Finland. It is situated on the 60th parallel north, and to the west of the capital, Helsinki, and nowadays is widely regarded as a suburb of the Finnish capital. That was basically all Marcel Wüthrich knew about the place when he was asked last year whether he would like to transfer from Rotkreuz (in Canton Zug, Switzerland) to Espoo to become Head of Diabetes Care.

    Quick Tip: Interview Eye Contact.

May 15, 2012 9:57 AM | Mike Wood for RocheCareers

Interview Eye ContactEye contact during an interview (or meeting) can be vital. If you let your eyes wander, it can make you appear disinterested, so it's very important to keep looking at the person you're talking with. If you're being interviewed by more than one person, make sure you "share" your eye contact. By missing one person out, you can make them feel "ignored". Similarly, by focusing on only one interviewer, you can make them feel awkward. Your task is to engage with everyone in the room. Try not to look away during hard questions, and try to focus on mostly the eyes. - but don't stare! And last, but no means least - Don't forget to smile!!

    Quick Tip: Tracking Your Resume

April 18, 2012 11:08 AM | Mike Wood for RocheCareers

When you put yourresume "out there" during your job hunting, its sometimes hard to know where it goes.

One simple tip is to create and include a reference code within it, so that at when you get a call from a company or an agency, you'll know which CV they have and how they got it. It may not always be from where you expect.

For example: if you include "ref: M12-04" in your CV, it might well tell you (assuming you keep alog of them) that this CV was uploaded to Monster in April 2012.

The system is entirely up to you and can be as simple or complex as you like. You could include the code in the body of the CV or as part of the file name - Just remember that if you include it in the filename, don't hide your actual name in a jumble of letters and characters.

    Quick Tip: Interview Body Language

April 4, 2012 3:04 PM | Mike Wood for RocheCareers

Arguably the most important facet of good body language is eye contact. While no one wants to be stared at intensely for the duration of an interview, regular eye contact is important in reassuring the recruiter of both your interest and your attention. Unsurprisingly, you may also want to flash the odd smile particularly when shaking hands at the beginning and end of the interview. Equally, be sure to avoid insincerity at all costs and always attempt to remain natural.

Finally, when youre sat down in the interview room, make sure not to slouch. While appearing relaxed is certainly preferable, slouching back in your chair can denote a lack of interest or overall negative body language. Ultimately, while much of this is basic commonsense, it is nonetheless worth keeping in mind on the day.

A Positive Attitude Can Bring Success

March 21, 2012 7:30 AM | Mike Wood for RocheCareers

A significant proportion of your success in work is determined by your attitude and your personality at work.

From your salary tospeed of promotion, can be driven by how much people like you, how much they notice you, and how much your colleagues are happy to help you.

So its vital to keep positive and optimistic at all times, and always lookfor the opportunities that exist rather than to focusing on the problems. When times get tough or stressful, your team and your manager will want positive & constructive people around them. If that's you, your co-workers will want you around, if it's not - watch out.

The good news is that being positive doesn't cost you anything. It doen'trequire years of experience, training, expensive qualifications or any special skills. We can all do it. All it takes is your personality and YOU are in control of that. Start now.

Severe weather conditions in Boston did not keep motivated graduates from coming in big numbers to the Fair at MIT, where our team interviewed more than 250 highly qualified candidates from all over the US. More than 100 participants attended our companys presentation and gained an overview about interesting career opportunities and what it means to work at Roche in Europe. The fair which is supported by the European Commission attracted about 100 European companies, universities and research institutes as well as 5000 students, graduates and professionals.

As part of our trip, we attended the ECF satellite events Swiss Life Science Night at the Swiss Consulate and the GAIN (German Academic International Network) -Spezial at the Goethe-Institute in Boston, where we met scientists specifically interested in working in Switzerland and Germany. Research clusters in Europe are very attractive to international scientists because of the breadth of career opportunities, high living standards and the chance to work in an international environment.

Ive been at Roche for (lucky) 7 years, starting as an HR manager in our Diagnostics North American Headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. I was promoted to Director, Talent Management and then decided I really wanted to experience working at the Global Headquarters. The next thing I knew , and probably one of the scariest things Ive ever done, Id accepted this job ( four years ago) and we moved our (then) 7, 5, 3 and 1 year olds herewithout even knowing what Guten Tag meant! Its been such a wonderful adventure and were so glad we did it.
