Meet Kay Brunner a Diagnostics Life Cycle Leader
My name is Kay Brunner. I am 44 years of age, married and have 2 daughters. I originally trained as a physician and later did a dual study in business administration. Ive now worked for around 15 years in different roles in the Life Sciences industry. My range of experiences covers many parts of the value chain from scientific to commercial and from Pharma to Diagnostics.Where did you study?
I studied medicine in the very nice old university towns of Wrzburg and Marburg (Germany) and later I did a dual study of business administration in Hannover.
Which Roche location are you currently working at? What can you tell us about that location?
I am currently working in Rotkreuz in the Roche Diagnostics Headquarter of Roche Professional Diagnostics. The village Rotkreuz is part of the canton Zug and very close to Luzern one of the most beautiful towns in Switzerland. It is also well connected to Zrich. It is an outstanding area for people who like outdoor activities like skiing, hiking in the mountains or visiting the most stunning clean lakes nearby.
Why did you decide to join Roche?
I did my pre-clinical Doctor of Medicine thesis in oncology (kidney cancer) and also later worked with patients who suffered from it. When you have those insights, there is no better place to work than Roche, as it is not only the most successful company of the world within the indication but also does outstanding Research and Development.
What is your current job?
I am Life Cycle Leader Cardio-Renal/Critical Care & Womens Health (excusing himself for the long job title and smiling). My team and I are in charge of the product portfolio for our In-vitro-Diagnostic tests/Immunoassays in those Disease areas you may remember from my long job title (sneers again). We are also accountable for selected Personalized Healthcare projects, that is to say Roches competitive advantage being a leader in Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics. Taken altogether, our accountability covers the whole value chain from Research and Development, Licensing, Registration, Production to Product Care including Marketing.
What makes it such a great job?
The job I do is outstanding because of the breadth and depth of the activities my team and I are accountable for. Even though I am already a quite experienced individual in the Life Science industry each day I learn something new. In many areas we have the best specialists in the world in our teams and there is hardly any other place where you have such an outstanding access to people helping you deliver the most innovative and high quality solutions like we do at Roche.
Can you pick one of the attributes of Roche and explain in detail what they mean to you? (work/life balance, products, respect, development opportunities, future career opportunities, interesting jobs, organizational stability)
This is a really tough question only one positive attribute is allowed to be mentioned? Only one! I want to talk about innovation, quality, excellent people and so on - a single one, really?
Yes please, we want to know the most important one for you.
Okay, I will pick up the excellent people because they are the reason why we deliver such an outstanding quality and why we are in several areas the global Number one. The people that are already members of our teams now and the ones we recruit today are the most important corner stone ensuring our future leading position. With that said, I am very positive about our future.
How would you describe the people working here?
When I look carefully at the people I work with, I work for or who work for me it is quite impressive to see their qualities they deliver as a whole package. Maybe there are people somewhere in the world who have a slightly higher specific expert knowhow in an area but when I combine this with other important attributes like commitment, sustainability and integrity I would think that all in all our people are the best.
What would you advise job seekers who want to join us?
Yes, I am looking for great people in my team. Clearly those new colleagues need to have the hard skills and experiences we described in detail in the specific job descriptions on our careers portal. However, those hard skills are just the entrance ticket. We need people who are enthusiastic about what they do and colleagues you are really looking forward to see after your holiday on your first day back at work.
Thanks for your story!
