Plant Engineer


The minimum requirements for this position are: 


Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Government Competency Certificate - GCC

Experience

  • 7 – 9 Years related work experience
  • Knowledge of Labour relations
  • Knowledge of OHSA and OHS Act, GMP and GEP standards
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all local internal and external authority services are running optimally and are maintained by liaising on an ongoing basis with the relevant stakeholder in the event of any break in the service supply
  • Ensure that the company and all related aspects/stakeholders comply with all relevant legislative requirements, such as the OHSA, GMP and GEP
  • Conduct and participate with the Safety Officer in incident investigation according to the requirements of the OHS Act and the Department of Labour
  • Review service contracts annually
  • Ensure that any alterations and modifications comply with the GMP and operational requirements (incl. Planned Maintenance System)
  • Improve equipment to ensure improved productivity ensuring the respective equipment complies with the relevant specifications (GMP, operational requirements)
  • Directly responsible for the planning and physical lay-out of production lines and production infrastructure to ensure that products can be processed efficiently
  • Manage related projects according to project plans, keeping within allocated budgetary limits and ensuring that these are completed successfully within the agreed time frames
  • Update Planned Maintenance System when required, ensuring that machines are maintained and performing at optimum levels, according to the service schedule
  • Ensure that the maintenance service providers deliver a satisfactory and timeous service
  • In case of interruption of production due to engineering aspects ensure that downtime is minimised as far as possible
  • Ensure that stand-by personnel are available for the 24-hr breakdown service and are on site when called out

Customer focus

  • Ensure that all internal customers and stakeholders are satisfied with all engineering related services (workshops, general services) provided
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external service providers and municipalities in order to ensure that their services are at the required level

Staff focus

  • Ensure the ongoing development and enhancement of staff skills and potential
  • Create and maintain a conducive working environment within the department to ensure high levels of morale, performance, motivation, mutual respect and team spirit. Including Diversity Management
  • Ensure the maintenance of discipline and adherence to internal processes and codes of conduct relating to the specific area of responsibility
