Roche Talent Pool

Global Studies Associate

Meet the Global Studies Associates: we are expert organisers who are great at working with different groups of people.

As GSAs, we coordinate and support study and data management activities across one or more of the Study Management Teams (SMTs) which run Roche’s clinical trials. That breadth of involvement gives us considerable influence to help ensure consistency and drive best practice.

One of the key responsibilities of a GSA is to support the Global Studies Leader (GSL), Global Studies Operations Manager (GSOM) and the Study Data Manager (SDM) who lead the studies which drive forward Roche’s rich pipeline of potential new products.

Exactly what we need to do depends on what stage the study is at but we do tend to be juggling a lot of things - so you need to be organised!

Our work can range from providing information for drug supply forecasts and managing study supplies to compiling feasibility data. It involves keeping an eye on affiliate budgets and country action plans and tracking regulatory submissions so we can raise any issues. We also develop, maintain and manage a range of study documentation including newsletters, online information sharing, study manuals and clinical study reports. That variety means that no two days or weeks are ever the same which really keeps you interested.

Building good working relationships across study teams in the UK and other countries and with external contract research organisations is another popular part of our role. We support communication, manage contact details and distribution lists and organise meetings and presentation materials for investigators and monitors.

Within the company we work with a range of people, pulling together and helping each other out where we can as we all work towards achieving our shared goals. Working with different countries also adds interest. You have to ensure that everyone understands each other and that they have the information that they need to do their job. Not surprisingly, to be a successful GSA you need to have great communication skills and experience of working in large teams.

Keeping a constant eye on progress, we are also responsible for tracking and maintaining study information and reporting on it. We advise the SMT on tracking systems, tools and templates. Then we set them up and provide regular updates, highlighting any issues.

Roche is always looking for new, improved ways of working so we help to develop best practice in the use of tracking tools and templates. We also ensure that regulations and SOPs are adhered to and keep an eye on consistency across studies.

Like other Roche employees, we are empowered to make decisions in the knowledge our manager and team members will support us. That means there is a lot of scope for you to decide how best to do your job, which is very rewarding.

The icing on the cake is being based at Roche’s UK Head Office building; a building which helps to create a modern work environment with an open and trusting atmosphere. Roche is always on the look out for more talented GSAs so check out the current vacancies or register in the talent pool.
