Line Manager
Are you a people person? We are; as line managers we focus on supporting and developing individuals so they can fulfil their - and Roche’s - aspirations.
Roche’s development organisation is based on project teams made up of talented and passionate professionals who work to drive forward a rich product pipeline. As a line manager, we work across that structure, managing groups of people from their functional speciality and in some cases relationships with suppliers of contractors. Through regular formal meetings and daily interactions, we provide leadership, manage performance, resolve issues, help prioritise and support training and development.
We all put a strong emphasis on performance; we have high expectations and it delivers results. We aim to motivate, influence and inspire others to do the best job they can do. We work to understand each of the individuals - what motivates them, what they want to get out of their roles and what they want from us. Needless to say, we need to have excellent people management skills and to be adept at influencing others whilst working in a matrix organisation.
However, Roche is not one for micro-management. We try to empower our teams to take responsibility and make decisions in an environment of trust. They manage their own workload but we are there to step in and help if needed. When people meet our expectations, we are also there to recognise and reward their success – aided by Roche’s competitive salary and bonus schemes which are designed to promote continued success. This can be a hugely satisfying role. The people we manage are usually highly motivated, good performers, aware of their development needs and nice to work with.
There is great variety and the fact that we try not to work in silos presents opportunities to understand and influence the medical and therapeutic side of our operations so you are always developing, learning and being challenged.
For the future, it is also good to know that Roche has a strong pipeline. Innovation is critical to Roche’s success and as line managers we play an important role in identifying and implementing process and system improvements, sharing knowledge and seeking and acting on feedback.
We all have a strong level of functional expertise in study management or data management and contribute our knowledge and experience to drive global strategy and initiatives and implement them across our sites. That involves making good use of our analytical, conceptual thinking, leadership, project management and implementation skills.
So, if you would like to join us in making a difference to local people and global projects, look out for line manager vacancies or register in the talent pool.
