The global Portfolio and Project Management (PPM) team is an integral part of the Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) organisation and the center of excellence for the Portfolio and Project Management skills and knowledge required to develop molecules from entry into portfolio until the end of the pivotal-enabling study.
As a member of the PPM, you are a strategic partner, helping both pRED molecule project teams and governance bodies to make the best decisions, navigate the future and bring novel therapeutics to patients. The position provides an outstanding opportunity to influence R&D from research throughout Phase 2 across many therapeutic areas. It requires interactions with partners from the Research, Clinical, Development Sciences, Regulatory and Commercial organisations.


Key facts

Who:

You have a life sciences/digital science background as well as preferably an MBA and/or PhD degree. You have one to two years of work experience in the medical/pharmaceutical or scientific industries. 
You have demonstrated a well-developed strategic and analytical approach with a track record of integrating and synthesising findings from multiple sources to enable informed strategic decision-making. 
In this programme you will need strong strategic, collaboration and communication skills, as well as an entrepreneurial mindset. 
We expect pRED to benefit from your innovative approach and creative thinking in your second-year stretch assignments.

Outcome and prospects:


First year

During the first year, you will be part of the Portfolio and Project Management team.
You will help to achieve strategic objectives by working on current pRED portfolio analyses, pRED development project valuations, business options and disease therapy/translational area (DTA)-specific portfolio reporting as well as by interacting with key functions and the project teams, ensuring consistency of assumptions and inputs to business valuations, and by providing feedback to support and improve decision-making. Furthermore, you will play a meaningful role in crafting strategic portfolio perspectives for senior partners. You will be working closely with individual project teams as well as the portfolio and project management team, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about the pRED organisation and lead your own assignments.
Guided by a senior management mentor as well as your PPM line manager and your buddy, you will be afforded the time to find and drive your assignment for the second year.


First-year key responsibilities include:

  • Hands-on involvement in the full data analysis process (from data sourcing to data cleaning and preparation, to analysis, model validation, and visualisation). This includes being involved in designing the data generation and collection process, as well as communicating partial and final results throughout projects
  • High-quality data preparation and analyses scripts/pipelines that are findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable (FAIR) as well as readable, understandable, scalable and reproducible.
  • Business management of necessary systems and tools to allow entry, tracking, extraction of information, extracting data and ensuring accuracy of that data
  • Perform project valuations (NPV, RR) incl. sensitivity and scenario analyses to support development of business cases for pRED investments / projects
  • Perform business analysis in support of strategic cross-portfolio projects
  • Ensure alignment of cross-functional assumptions for a consolidated project view
  • Support annual prioritisation, project planning and business planning processes
  • Provide high-quality presentations and documentation for senior management
  • Upon request, prepare and update regular reports on progress of portfolio and implications (incl. strategic context) for senior managers and provide input to cross-portfolio reports
  • Assist in acquiring, managing, and developing new data assets to support portfolio decision-making, and develop new and innovative analyses through the integration of various data sources


Second year

During this assignment you can rotate in any other part of the organisation, i.e. in a therapy area (Immunology, Infectious Disease and Ophthalmology (I2O), Neuroscience and Rare Diseases (NRD), or Oncology) or in one of the global functions: Pharmaceutical Sciences, Therapeutic Modalities or pRED Operations. You will have the opportunity to make your mark on your chosen pRED organisation through high visibility projects and senior-level challenges.
