My name is Solihin, and I joined the Roche Singapore Technical Operations (RSTO) Train and Place Programme in 2024. I was placed in the Manufacturing Department under Production Services (PS). What drew me to this programme was an earlier school internship that gave me my first exposure to the biologics industry. Being part of the manufacturing process and realizing how directly it impacts patients’ lives sparked my interest and inspired me to pursue this career path.
When I joined the programme, my goal was to learn as much as I could and build the right skills, discipline, and mindset to succeed in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect in PS or how my role would shape my career. Looking back, I now see that it provided the perfect foundation.
During my time in PS, I gained a strong understanding of manufacturing workflows and the critical role of support functions in ensuring smooth production. As a trainee, I was attached to a senior biotechnologist and supported by an experienced, knowledgeable team who guided me whenever I faced challenges. This culture of mentorship gave me the confidence to ask questions, learn proactively, and grow at my own pace.
Through the programme, I developed from a trainee into a biotechnologist who is both competent and confident. I learned to take initiative, step up when my team needed support, and carry greater responsibility. By the end of the programme, I felt proud of my growth but also realized I wasn’t ready to stop learning. With encouragement from my colleagues, I applied for a new role on the upstream side of manufacturing at Roche.
