Meet Ebru, RiKO intern at Roche

Hi, my name is…

Ebru, and I am from the Schwabenländle in Germany. I am studying pharmaceutical engineering at the Albstadt Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences and am about to graduate with a bachelor's degree.

In my spare time I do a lot of sports. I love to play football and handball and I love team sports. It is very exciting for me to be able to work in the pharmaceutical industry for 12 months.

Why did you decide to join the RiKO programme?

It's a completely different kind of interview; you're with all the other applicants and that takes away the nervousness, you're more relaxed and don't feel so alone. It's cool to get to know the other applicants because it allows you to exchange ideas during Riko. Through the Riko, I have found direct friends with whom I still have contact today.

What is your area of expertise and what are you working on right now?

My tasks here at Rocephin are very different; we have to immerse ourselves every day. Because our offices are right at the production line, I get to know a lot about the processes and facilities here at Roche. I qualify new employees, organise and give training. I also create training material for employees, such as videos for dismantling and assembling machine parts. We are also responsible for supporting the line staff, which gives me a better insight into the operation.

How different is your work to your university experience?

Here I can actively apply the knowledge I acquired at university. It is very exciting to watch how you put the knowledge you learned in theory into practice.

How does your work contribute to improving patients’ lives?

By qualifying our employees, we ensure that they can really apply what they have learned, and can be deployed. This ensures that our qualified employees are very familiar with our products and thus guarantee satisfaction.

Did the RiKO programme help you with your development? If so, how?

Riko has taught me to be more confident and open-minded. I now get into a conversation with people much faster and easier than before, which makes networking much easier for me.

What advice do you have for people who are interested in the RiKO programme?

Do it! Riko offers different possibilities, you get to know new people with whom you will work later on, and there are also different jobs that you may not have dealt with before, so a new chance for a new job develops.

How do you feel about Roche as an employer?

Through Roche, I have become much more self-confident, I know what I can do and how I can use what I know. I have become aware of the different ways to develop and that there are several ways to reach your goal.
