Hi, my name is Loshana Vimalanathan, born and raised in Malaysia. I was first introduced to Roche Services and Solutions (RSS) by a good friend who recommended me for an Account Receivable and Treasury Analyst role opening and the rest was history. Within the first month of working in Roche, I knew that this was exactly where I wanted to be. The culture and environment in Roche provided me with a sense of belonging and the urge to strive forward – it gave me the courage and space to grow.
Much of my experience that is built in Roche is directly attributed to taking opportunities and being bold. However, these opportunities didn’t just present themselves to me – I had to articulate my interests and career growth plans with my managers and mentors through regular check-ins. Besides that, I had to continuously show my capabilities and adaptability to various situations which gave them the confidence to open those doors for me.
Soon, I landed the role of General Accounting & Management Accounting (GAMA) Analyst which I was personally eyeing, and so that was my stepping stone to the adventures that followed. Opportunities are not often direct, sometimes they appear subtly and I had many of those instances. I had the chance to perform reverse onboarding for a local affiliate, projects, sharing sessions, short-term back-up, migration of new entities and supporting colleagues through critical reporting deadlines. Trust me, these small wins added up and this eventually led to my promotion to Senior GAMA Analyst.

I am able to build a greater network within our ecosystem as we come together to achieve the objectives of bringing RSS closer to our and Roche’s ambitions. This is the perfect environment for me to practice leadership and other soft skills. Best of all – I always have fun!
I was very lucky to have met my mentor via the Roche Finance Mentoring programme, who widened my perspective of potential career growth in Roche. It was not an easy feat, but with a nurturing space, I was able to build my self-awareness and practice new learnings. The results were rewarding and, at Roche, even small changes are celebrated. The programme provided a safety net to both the mentor and mentee. It kept us on track using a checklist and having agreements on the objectives we set – it showed the commitment from both parties.
In 2021, I got nominated for and was fortunate to be given the chance to participate in the Finance Accelerate programme. After meeting with an alumnus, who showed me a glimpse of the programme, I was determined to join it with an open mind and bring my own experiences to share. It was a real eye-opener to me, a glimpse of the Roche world beyond RSS. I was able to interact with colleagues across the globe in diverse Finance roles. It provided me with an avenue to get up close and personal with the Global Finance Leadership team and hear about their own career journey. I was also able to learn more about myself as a leader through the Leadership Circle Profile that was featured in the programme.
What’s next for me? Growing myself and continuing my career in Roche by finding new opportunities.
