Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Molly Wu and I originally come from Shanghai, China. I also spent three years in Australia studying and working. I got my bachelor’s degree in International Marketing in Shanghai and got my master’s degree in Professional Accounting in Australia.
Prior to working at Roche Basel as Global Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for Information Technology, I was the Principal HRBP at Roche Pharmaceuticals China. I am a human resources professional working for over 10 years in different industries. Besides HR, I have also worked as a marketing executive and an auditor before. All those experiences have helped me to build up a broader perspective and deep understanding of different business models, which enables me to be a strong Human Resources Business Partner within Roche.
In which Roche location are you currently working and what can you tell us about that location as a work environment?
I currently live and work in Basel in conjunction with an international assignment at the Roche headquarters. It is great for me to be able to take a bus or walk to the office. I quite enjoy walking in Basel along the Rhine River and use it as a time for ‘walking meditation’ after a whole day at work. The town is gorgeous.
There are around 10 people in the Global HRBP for Finance & IT team where I work. When I started in Basel, the team members and line manager were all extremely welcoming and supportive. I felt immediately that I was part of the team.
Although I am not a big coffee drinker, I really enjoy the coffee made in the first floor of the building I work in on Grenzacherstrasse.
Why did you decide to join Roche and why at this location?
Roche is truly committed to “Doing now what patients need next.” This commitment is shared wholeheartedly by me. It inspires and motivates me to seek the optimal solutions for business challenges.
My current job in HR gives me the opportunity to work in a global function in Basel. This enables me to make a bigger impact on the business, employees and patients. We find the right people for open positions and develop our own talent within the organization. We also help to build a great place to work for our employees. We believe that everything we do will help our people to be more engaged and motivated to improve the quality of patients’ lives.
As HRBP, I interact with different clients so I am able to adapt to different businesses and a dynamic market situation.
In this context, working with various senior leaders also gives me a perspective of different leadership styles.
