Making a difference through analytics - Meet Shrey
As I’m coming from an entirely different background, entering the big pharma domain seemed like a Herculean task at first until I joined Roche, and that’s when I realized I was not alone here. My name is Shrey and I come from a chemical engineering background and have always kept a keen interest in human physiology and plant medicine.
After my graduation I got into Java development until I came across this wonderful opportunity of working with team GATE (Global Analytics and Technology Center of Excellence) which is an initiative by Roche for developing an analytics stronghold centre in India. As someone who has been inspired by big pharma documentaries, my ultimate goal has always been to help the maximum number of people using smart and efficient methods. Analytics, I believe, has a significant role to play not only in driving industrial growth but also in making a greater impact on patients receiving diagnoses. Given the chance, this was an opportunity I couldn’t miss, so I didn’t hesitate for a moment before taking it.
I joined the GATE team in December 2021 when the world just started recovering from the pandemic phase, and I have been working remotely since then. I had a very smooth onboarding experience and received excellent training and exposure to various new technologies. My team also provided me with numerous opportunities to think outside the box, for which I am extremely grateful. The anxiety I initially felt about navigating my work here didn’t last long, as the work culture I’ve witnessed at Roche has been truly phenomenal. To be honest, using the word ‘professional’ would be an understatement.
“The choice that scares you is the one that helps you grow.”

Working with the Access Solutions team has been an incredible opportunity for me to collaborate with Roche’s various affiliates and subsidiaries. I get a chance to interact and further expand my knowledge on this domain whenever we interact with our colleagues and stakeholders. While working on data science projects automations is not new, what stands out to me is the strong sense of connection within the team even in a remote work environment.
Being a part of the GATE team has exposed me to the implementation of strong work ethics and a growth-oriented mindset. I have personally witnessed a huge change in my attitude towards problem solving and could not have asked for a better environment to nurture my growth. At the end of the day, the question we ask ourselves is, “Why do we do what we do? And does it really make a difference?” At Roche there is a common phrase that goes by ‘Doing now what patients need next’. Thanks to us performing analytical operations on the products and treatments accessible to patients, our stakeholders have a better picture of the problems and make better decisions around enabling better treatment access to patients. This further proves instrumental in enabling them to explore better treatment options. The work we do here has a direct impact on the lives of others, and the sense of fulfilment it brings is truly remarkable.
