My first exposure to manufacturing came during university, and I saw how sought-after the field was. Yet it was during my internship that my interest shifted. I became curious about the quality side of pharmaceuticals and how quality assurance plays such a critical role in protecting patients’ lives.

From my research and conversations with peers and seniors, I consistently heard positive things about Roche. So, when I saw that Roche Singapore Technical Operations (RSTO) Train and Place Programme was hiring for a Quality Compliance role, I knew I had to apply.

My goal was simple: to absorb as much as I could. I went in with an open mind and the excitement of learning how quality and manufacturing work hand in hand. The chance to take part in inspections and audits further solidified my interest and showed me just how critical the role of Quality Assurance is.

The programme was more than just training, it was where I found my passion. I can now confidently say that my career path lies in quality, and this programme gave me the perfect foundation. It was an intense yet rewarding 15 months. Some of my most memorable moments were the long nights preparing for inspections, making sure every detail was perfect. Even though we were tired, we supported one another, laughed together, and reviewed each other’s work. That camaraderie made every challenge manageable and showed me the true meaning of teamwork.

“ My time at Roche has given me the opportunity to grow both in manufacturing and quality, while being supported by a team culture that values learning, respect, and inclusivity."

After completing the programme, I was thrilled to be offered a contract role in Production Services within Manufacturing. It was the perfect opportunity to combine my prior manufacturing experience with the quality mindset I had developed. Working on the manufacturing floor has given me a new perspective and allowed me to apply my skills in different ways.

I genuinely enjoy the work and the people, and I wanted to continue contributing to the company’s purpose. The culture at Roche has been incredibly supportive and inclusive. I’ve always felt encouraged to share ideas, and I know my voice is valued. Regular one-on-one sessions with my supervisor and team huddles provide clarity, open discussion, and collaboration. This environment has given me confidence and reinforced my commitment to grow with Roche.

Looking ahead, I hope to expand my skills further in manufacturing and contribute to LEAN projects that improve efficiency and safety. My aspiration is to continue exploring different areas within Roche, with the long-term goal of securing a full-time role.

To anyone considering the RSTO Train and Place Programme, my advice is to go in with an open mind and be ready to learn beyond the job description. Don’t join just for the paycheck, join to learn, build relationships, and discover your potential. Reflect on your progress and use every experience as a stepping stone for your future self. The experience you gain is invaluable, regardless of your next step.
