Working at Roche has been the opportunity of a lifetime

Our business partners in Site Services at the South San Francisco site have done an amazing job creating a campus environment that enables all employees to do their best. Our team contributes to this success by working in partnership with the business to develop procurement strategies that will allow them to achieve their goals and objectives.

My name is Brian. I was raised just outside of Detroit, Michigan. I started my Procurement career at General Motors Robotics Division. Fifteen years ago, I was on a three-year assignment in Northern California when I first heard about Genentech, a member of the Roche group. Genentech is the headquarters for all Roche Pharmaceutical operations in the U.S. The mission and company values aligned with my own, so I applied for a position. In 2008, I joined Genentech as the Head of Site Procurement in Oceanside. In 2012, I accepted a position in South San Francisco, where I currently lead the Facilities and Engineering Procurement Team for Region Americas. My team is responsible for sourcing the services required to support Roche Facilities (Food Service, Transportation, Construction, Maintenance, Energy, Real Estate, Security, etc.).

Working in Facilities and Engineering Procurement is a tremendous privilege.

Our impact

In Procurement, we have the unique opportunity to provide value by ensuring that we secure the best goods and services for Facilities and Engineering. By working closely with the strategic suppliers and the business, we can ensure that they are provided with innovating products or services, enabling them to do their best work.

The place to Work

When I joined the organization almost twelve years ago, I was so impressed with how they treated their employees that I hoped I could stay here for the remainder of my career. I have worked at several large corporations, but none of them compare to Roche in terms of employee appreciation. The benefits, work environment, transparency from leadership at Roche and my colleagues here are the best.

Our culture

Our work environment has a culture based on integrity, trust and respect. I love that the patient is at the centre of everything we do. I also deeply respect and am proud of my team members because they always do what is best for the team while keeping the patient in mind. They help each other with projects, celebrate each other’s successes as if they were their own, and provide words of encouragement when their teammate is having a tough day.

Our workplace

I work at Genentech’s South San Francisco Campus, which (pre-COVID-19) means a long daily commute from Danville. Thankfully, I have the opportunity to take a Genentech bus to work, which has improved my quality of life. I am fortunate to work at one of the best campuses in the Bay Area, with green spaces, shuttles between buildings and a variety of food options. Since we spend most of our time during the week in our offices, I am grateful for the world-class facilities that Genentech provides!
