Hi, I am Aditya and I work as a Senior Analyst for the Global Analytics and Technology Center of Excellence (GATE) team at Roche. I am located in Hyderabad, a historic city noted for its many monuments, temples and mosques, a diversity very similar to the diversity that is embedded in Roche.

Let me start by sharing with you how my inclination toward analytics started. Data Science and  Analytics is like a puzzle, where you have to put together different pieces of information to make sense of it, just like solving a jigsaw puzzle. I am amongst a billion fans, who grew up  watching and analyzing the game of cricket. My father used to be a professional cricketer, and we used to discuss the stats and strategy at length when a game was on– this slowly led to my passion for statistics and analytics. In 2016, Data Science and Big Data became the top buzzwords in every field. From e-commerce to social media, almost every sector was using data-driven solutions to target their customers.

This fascinated me so that I decided to join a well-known company in the analytics area, and thus began my journey as a Data Scientist. Since pharma was my first industry as a consultant, I came to learn how analytics is transforming the health sector. Health data analytics immensely improves patient care, enables faster and more accurate diagnoses, identifies preventive measures, curates more personalised treatment as well as better-informed decisions and of course lowers costs and simplifies operations. By analysing behavioural data, outbreaks and outcomes can now better be predicted and this has been very evident during the COVID-19 pandemic where the still coming waves are being predicted with better accuracy.

The COVID-19 pandemic was an eye-opener for the world and showed the importance of healthcare infrastructure and research and development in science. In times like this, every healthcare professional that stood by their nation should be honoured. So, amidst the pandemic, when I got the opportunity to work as a Senior Analyst at Roche, one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world, it was an opportunity for me to “do what I can, where I am, with what I have.”

"An important point about the work culture at Roche that I will not miss mentioning is that it promotes diversity in every space, which has helped me to learn a lot from the varied experiences of my colleagues."

Aditya Pathak
Senior Analyst
My work at Roche as a Senior Analyst is to provide data-driven solutions to the global stakeholders within Roche using descriptive, predictive and prescriptive approaches to processing data into meaningful insights generated in the form of reports and dashboards on commercial and medical analytics for different regions and ecosystems. In some projects, I get to utilize simulator tools and automated solutions developed with the help of machine-learning languages and statistical models,
both of which I find interesting and enjoyable. This facilitates new drug launches, predicts drug performance using KPIs like sales, attainment, etc. and enables the Marketing and Operations team to modify their strategies with targeted reports like field medical analytics.

The journey at Roche and in particular with the GATE family has been in one word AMAZING. It is a place where every little achievement is recognized, contributions are celebrated and ideas flow freely. The GATE monthly connect is one such example, where every month we get together to discuss the upcoming new projects, celebrate birthdays and work anniversaries, welcome new colleagues to our team and recognize and appreciate the impact performers of the month.

Our group also has special awards and accolades sessions like the mid-year and annual awards get-together, which are full of fun activities like pharma quizzes, team lunches and success stories while celebrating the accomplishments and the hard work of the team members. “I am only one, but I am still one. I cannot do everything, but still, I can do something.  And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” – E. E. Hale

Roche not only gave me the flexibility to choose a location as per my preference but also provided great support for hassle-free relocation to the new city. This included a familiarisation trip to the new city with my family, flight fares, hotel stays and the cost of transportation of the goods to the new place. The work-life balance coupled with my passion for data science in healthcare makes Roche the best fit for me.

If you enjoyed reading about my experience and are interested in learning more about career opportunities at Roche, we would love to have you join and be a part of our talent community.
